LPSB Weekly Update 14th May 2021

Posted on: May 14th - 2021

Dear Families,

Welcome to the end of another week and there are a number of things for me to update you on this week.

Face masks

You may well already be aware that from Monday 17th May students are no longer required to wear face masks in schools. The requirement to wear a mask has been removed both in lessons and in communal areas around the school so they will not be required at all. Any student who wishes to continue to wear a mask is able to do so if they choose to. Staff will still wear face masks in communal areas when it is busy. All other Covid safety measures remain in place including frequent hand washing, the one-way system, year group bubbles, the staggered start and finish times and the need for students to complete twice weekly home tests using the lateral flow tests. All students should have received some additional tests over the course of the last week if they need them. A reminder as ever to ensure you are recording the results on the NHS website, and with the school.

End of Year exams

KS3 Assessments

We will be running assessments in class for years 7, 8 and 9 starting the week of 24th May.  Class teachers will be notifying their classes when each assessment will take place and will be going through full revision topics with students.

Year 12 Exams

These exams begin straight after half term on 7th June and Mr Cook has circulated an exam timetable to students.  Exams will take place in the performance hall.

Year 10 Exams

These exams begin on 21st June.  Students will receive their exam timetables next week.

Year 11 and 13 Assessments and post Exam work

The second and last week of assessments for Years 11 and 13 will continue next week and will run right up to the point at which they leave at the end of next week. A reminder that Year 13 will finish on Thursday 20th May after their final Celebration Assembly. The last day in school for Year 11, as previously communicated, will be Friday 21st May. There will be a final assembly and students will be dismissed before lunchtime. Details regarding GCSE Results Day and Sixth Form Enrolment will follow from Mr Edwards in due course.

Work for Years 11 and 13 after next week

After the point at which our Year 11 and 13 students have completed their assessments and leave us they will be provided with resources for them to continue to study independently using a collection of online resources which will be sent home for all students to access through Microsoft Teams. For students in Year 11 this work will focus on preparation for life in the 6th Form and transition work for the subjects they intend to study at post 16. The Year 13 resources provide an opportunity for students to prepare for University life and degree level courses. We hope that the students will take advantage of these resources over the coming weeks. Their teachers remain available to answer any questions that they may have throughout.

DfE laptops

We loaned some DfE laptops to students during the period of school closure to enable them to access the remote curriculum. Please could you ensure that these laptops and chargers are returned to school this week before Wednesday 19th May so that we can now begin to use them in school to support students' learning in school.

16-19 Bursary

The deadline for the next round of 16-19 Bursary applications is next Friday 21st May. All students who are eligible for Free School Meals and who have previously been eligible for Pupil Premium can place an application, as can any student who is facing financial hardship in their family. The Bursary can be used to purchase books, stationery, clothing and other resources to support a student's learning, as well to support with educational trips and visits. Please see the school website for the application form and guidance notes or contact Ms Dell for further information. All applications must be submitted to adell@lpsb.org.uk by Friday 21st May.

A Night at the Musicals

As I know many of you are aware, the return of live Performing Arts at Langley Boys will soon be upon us with the sixth form production of “A Night at the Musicals”. This will be taking place in the school Performance Hall on the evenings of Wednesday 26th, Thursday 27th and Friday 28th May, beginning at 7.30pm.  The event will be socially distanced with a limited audience but tickets are still available at www.ticketsource.co.uk/lpcpa for those who are keen to attend.

We are now just two weeks from the half term break and I am very impressed by the level of work and commitment shown by all staff and students over the last few weeks in what has felt like a very intense term so far. Fingers crossed the weather changes soon and we are able to start enjoying some sunshine. Have a good weekend.

Yours sincerely

Mr S. Parsons

Headteacher
