Our Careers Hub opened its doors in September 2023.  It is open every day from 8.00am until 4.00pm where students can access information to support their future pathways. A range of resources are available which include University and College prospectuses, Apprenticeship information and Industry-related leaflets. Careers information and advice is offered to all students as well as personal support. We offers regular opportunities to engage with employers and to attend careers-related workshops.

Our Careers Hub opened in September 2023 and provides a structured, well-resourced environment where students can access impartial, high-quality, information, advice and guidance. The hub is open daily from 8.00am to 4.00pm and supports students at every stage of their journey, ensuring they receive the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to make informed decisions about their future pathways.

Students can find university and college prospectuses, apprenticeship information, industry-specific materials, and guidance on future pathways. Every student has access to personal careers advice with our qualified advisors, and we run a comprehensive programme which includes employer encounters, workshops, trips and events throughout the year.

As a school, we are proud to meet all eight Gatsby Benchmarks, offering:

  • A stable and well-structured careers programme delivered through bi-weekly tutor sessions and embedded curriculum links. Unifrog access for all students
  • High-quality Labour Market Information through tutor activities and “Job of the Week” videos.
  • Inclusive, data-driven support tailored to the needs of all pupils, including disadvantaged and SEND students.
  • Teachers connect subject content to real-world pathways, including trips, careers talks and displays, Linking Curriculum Learning to Careers
  • Employer encounters such as our Careers Fair with 65+ exhibitors, World of Work Day and industry speakers.
  • Experiences of workplaces, including 100% uptake in Year 10 and Year 12 work experience.
  • Encounters with FE and HE, including visits to Goldsmiths and workshops with Portsmouth and Southampton University, plus our Post-18 Pathways event.
  • Personal guidance through one-to-one interviews
     

We are proud to offer full inclusion across our careers provision:

  • Disadvantaged students benefit from targeted programmes such as Zero Gravity and Future Frontiers, personalised coaching, employer visits, bursaries and school-sourced work experience.
  • SEND students receive bespoke guidance, tailored work experience, transition planning, and specialist programmes including the Sixth Form Employability course, ICAN Employability Course (Year 10) and enhanced support for EHCP students.

Our careers programme is fully compliant with the Careers Guidance and Access for Education and Training Providers legislation, including the Provider Access Legislation (PAL). We ensure all students have access to independent, impartial guidance and a broad range of employer and provider engagement.

Langley Park School for Boys is proud to celebrate National Careers Week as a school community. We invite all staff to wear badges for the week as a prompt to initiate conversations with students about their previous careers and routes into those jobs.

 

 

 

Staff also display job posters on their classroom and office doors, and we task Year 7 to feed back any interesting job facts about their teachers. We we’re always so impressed with the range of jobs teachers have had before landing at Langley!

The Linkedin profile acts as a digital CV where our students can showcase their work experience, education, skills and accomplishments.  It’s an invaluable resource for job seekers and a platform to showcase students’ individual brands. Linkedin is the only social media platform that students can access from school.  Over 80% of recruiters use Linkedin in their recruitment process.

Students  can set up an account where they can complete the skills health assessment, which will recommend jobs based on  preferences. Also, a useful website for general advice and job profiles which contain links to further relevant websites.  Apprenticeships can also be applied for through the NCS website based on area and industry.

 

support to work employment programme offer a free online and telephone support programme for disabled people who are looking for a paid job. Support includes support writing CVs, supporting statements and improving interview skills.

All free to access.

 

provides a central service between student applicants and University courses.   All students must submit University and some conservatoire applications through UCAS. For those students wishing to apply for an Apprenticeship, UCAS now has a find an apprenticeship section on their website.  UCAS also provides additional information and careers advice, including preparing for interviews, CV and cover letter guidance and advice about volunteering, internships, and job support.

 

helps students compare University courses, Apprenticeships and Further Education courses. Also, a fantastic resource for researching job profiles and subject pathways. All teacher references for university are completed through Unifrog, as well as work experience in Year 10 and 12. Students can also complete short subject-based courses called MOOCS. which can be added to personal statements for University and to enhance job applications and CVs.
