EXAM POST RESULTS SERVICES
Post Result Services Summer 2026
If a school or college believes an error has occurred in the marking or moderation of a student’s exam paper or coursework it can request a review from the exam board. All types of review of exam marking relate to an individual paper completed by an individual student.
This page explains who can request a review, what types of review are available, and what to do if you remain dissatisfied with the outcome.
Internal Students
Only schools and colleges can request reviews of marking on behalf of students. Exam boards do not accept review requests directly from students. Before submitting a request, the school must obtain the student's written consent.
External Students
If you are an ex-student who has resat exams you can request a review of marking directly with the exam board.
All exam boards offer the following post-results services:
Service 1
Administrative Error Review/Clerical Check
This review checks that the exam paper has been processed correctly. It confirms that:
- all questions have been marked
- marks have been added up correctly
- marks have been recorded accurately
Results are usually provided within 10 calendar days of the exam board receiving the request.
Service 2
Review of Marking
A Review of Marking involves an independent reviewer checking the original marking of an exam paper to identify any marking errors. If an Administrative Error Review/Clerical Check has not already been requested, it is automatically included as part of this service.
There are two review options:
- Priority review – available for students whose place in further or higher education depends on the outcome, or where a faster result is required. Results are usually provided within 15 calendar days.
- Standard review – results are usually provided within 20 calendar days.
All exam boards offer priority reviews for AS and A-Level qualifications. For GCSEs, priority reviews are currently available only through Pearson/Edexcel.
Service 3
Review of Moderation
A Review of Moderation checks whether the original moderation of non-examination assessment, such as coursework, was carried out correctly.
This service can only be requested by the school. The review is based on a sample of students' work that was originally assessed by teachers at the school and then moderated by the exam board.
A Review of Moderation cannot be requested for an individual student’s work.
Access to Scripts
Copy of exams scripts
You can request a copy of your exam scripts. This can help you decide if you want to proceed with a Review of Marking. For AQA there is also a priority Access to Scripts Service.
Copy of reviewed or clerically checked exam script
A copy of your exam script after a Clerical Check or a Review of Marking has occurred. This must be requested at the same time as requesting a Clerical Check or a Review of Marking (not after).
Each exam board sets its own deadlines each year, within a framework prescribed by Ofqual. LPSB sets it own internal deadlines to make sure that there is time to process all applications. Our deadlines are as follows:

A review of marking may result in the mark for an individual exam paper increasing, decreasing, or staying the same. A review does not guarantee that a mark will improve. If the mark changes, the student’s overall qualification grade may also change and will be updated accordingly.
For a Review of Moderation, grades can either be confirmed or increased. They cannot be lowered as a result of the review.
Exam boards charge a fee for reviews which you are liable to pay. Note that they charge a fee per exam paper / component / unit / module and not for the overall subject.
If the outcome of a review leads to a change to the qualification grade, the exam board will refund the fee. If the marks change but the qualification grade remains the same, they will not refund any fees.
Please note: If you requested more than one review for the same subject (for example, separate reviews for different exam papers), you will only receive a refund for the review that results in a change to your overall grade.
