Midsommar is a psychedelic thriller set in a remote rural Swedish community where the pagan "Midsommar" festival, that only happens every 90 years, is taking place. Travelling from America to join the festival are grieving college undergraduate Dani (Florence Pugh), her self-absorbed, egotistical long-term boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor) together with his friends Josh (William Jackson Harper), Mark (Will Poulter) and Pelle (Vilhelm Blomgren) who has planned the trip. When they arrive and explore the idyllic meadows around the Harga commune, the folkloric practices start off appealingly enough and the people seem friendly though a little unusual and everything is not quite what it first appears. This is a thoroughly enjoyable film that's horrifying, funny and beautiful filled with ideas, scary images and feelings that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
